Canadianisms

I sent this list to my husband and it provoked a great conversation piece. Growing up with most of these words in my vocabulary they seemed quite normal to me, but my husband had some giggles over plenty. Over the past 8 years since we've known each other he has heard several of these words escape my lips and it would bring on some ribbing and laughs.

#5 Eavestrough, #9 Pencil Crayons, #33 Freezies, and #37 Hydro are words that I still use, but they don't really mean much down here. The equivalent - I have found - are gutters, coloured pencils, ice pops, and well hydro is a different thing altogether -- in the US you have gas and electric which, well I won't go into that because I still get confused over what means what and which works which...another topic maybe?

Some of the items on this list I have honestly never heard of. Like #17 Keener, #19 Hooped, #35 Turfed out and #38 Skookum

#8 always provokes the wrong kind of conversation and lots of laughs and giggles - Homo Milk. If people would just realize that it's only a short form of Homogenized Milk.

Items #20 to 25 were very confusing for my husband - I have never used them in front of him. Mostly because I rarely drink anymore and if I do I definitely don't drink enough to use these terms in conversation. I loved reading them because they did bring back some foggy and fun memories of my youth. Ones I don't care to re-live, but am glad I did at the time.

I know there are other words that come up that didn't make this list, but very few. I am so thankful to have found this wonderful list. I love the words I grew up with and still use, even if there are people who have no idea what I am talking about.

Enjoy!
