Superbowl and Grey Cup
I always joke with people that I got kicked out of Canada because I wasn't a hockey fan.
The truth is that I'm not really any kind of sports fan.
I enjoyed going to CFL games with friends. I loved hanging out as a kid at local hockey games between feuding nearby towns. I've been to one NHL game in my life and had fun.
I don't care to watch sports on TV, but the few times I do it is usually play offs.
This past US Thanksgiving we were in Texas visiting the in-laws and the Grey Cup was on. The Hamilton TigerCats were playing against the Calgary Stampeders. Bittersweet rivalry for me. I lived in Hamilton for 10 years and have several exciting memories of seeing them play live. I met my husband in Calgary and we saw these teams play each other in the regular season before we moved to Alabama. I enjoy watching but don't know much about the sport or the stats of the teams. IS that wrong? MIL was asking me things and I didn't have any answers for her. I felt a little intimidated because everyone I meet in the US seems to be a huge football fan and knows anything and everything they need to know about it.
We went to a Super Bowl party this past weekend and had a really great time. I can remember who was playing but I don't know the score. I wouldn't be able to name one player. No offense to anyone who enjoys the sport, but it's really like a cult down here in the south. Perhaps all over the US? Canada is pretty crazy when it comes to hockey, so I guess that football is the equivalent here. The big difference that I have noticed, particularly living in Alabama, is that even when your team is not doing well, you don't cheer for the other. Roll Tide vs War Eagle. In Canada my experience was that you cheer on any Canadian team even after yours is out.
